What is tongue tie? A tongue-tie ('Ankyloglossia') is caused when the membrane under the tongue (the lingual frenulum) is tight or short or restricted. Restricted tongues can look heart-shaped, blunt or even forked or they may look normal in appearance. It is important to understand that a tongue tie cannot be diagnosed or ruled out simply by looking alone and it is always recommended that you seek the guidance of a qualified tongue tie practitioner for this reason.

Research tells us that roughly 1 in 10 babies might have some restrictive membrane under their tongue. But nt all of these babies will develop feeding issues as a result. We estimate that approximately 50% of these will present with significantly reduced oral function which could make feeding difficult.

An unhurried appointment in your own home to discuss and unknit previous experiences of pregnancy, labour and birth. Available to anyone but particularly helpful for those who might have suffered birth trauma and/or experienced confusing situations during their care and who feel they would benefit from a kind, patient listening session where I can help you to make sense of your story.
